Key message: While VMR Whitsunday has not yet transitioned to Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) this is expected to occur soon (September 2025).
- Marine Rescue Queensland launched in July 2024 as the state’s first single, integrated marine rescue service. The service brings together the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard and Volunteer Marine Rescue, who have kept Queenslanders safe on the water for more than five decades.
- Transitions are being managed in a coordinated way to ensure there is no disruption to the life-saving services we provide to you and our community.
- While we will be moving into a new service with new uniforms, you can be assured you will still see the same friendly faces and benefit from our expert local knowledge once we
become MRQ. - As we are currently in the final processes of transition, boaties are now automatically covered for the cost of rescue services. This will be paid for by the State Government and membership to VMRW is no longer be required. Should an activation be required, you are always welcome to make a direct contribution to cover fuel costs.
