Fact 1: A donation to VMR Whitsunday is spent entirely on running costs and remains in the Whitsundays.
Fact 2: VMR Whitsunday is a separately incorporated organisation and all operators and administrators are volunteers – we have no paid employees.
Fact 3: Our volunteer operators are qualified to comply with Search and Rescue requirements and we operate 24/7, 365 days a year on Search and Rescue demands or simply to assist recreational boaties who have run out of fuel or have broken down.
Fact 4: VMR Whitsunday has one of the largest Marine Rescue territories in Australia, operating beyond the shipping lanes, in unpredictable waters.
Fact 5: Our Administration costs are minimal, carried out by competent volunteers.
VMR Whitsunday receives a small annual grant from the Qld State Government through the Department of Emergency Services (Via Marine Rescue Queensland.
The remainder of our operating costs are met through local fundraising, generous sponsorship, membership fees and the charging of non members for assistance provided.
